Obama, Syrian Rebels, And 500 Billion Dollars

I have never been opposed to America’s involvement  in other countries when it made sense for her to do so, but spending 500 billion dollars to arm and train Syrian rebels is just another stupid idea. We get lured in by atrocities. Yes. It’s bad. But arming and training Syrian rebels so that they can “take their future into their own hands” is the same as training and arming a future combatant against America, or Israel. Read this quote from a Washington Post article:

While we continue to believe that there is no military solution to this crisis and that the United States should not put American troops into combat in Syria, this request marks another step toward helping the Syrian people defend themselves against [Assad] regime attacks, push back against the growing number of extremists . . . who find safe-haven in the chaos, and take their future into their own hands by enhancing security and stability at local levels,” National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said in a statement.

This seems to me to be a twentieth century approach to a twenty-first century situation. Do you have an opinion?

Colorado Baker Ordered to Make Same-Sex Wedding Cakes – Christian News Blog

ccithink

So, would a same-sex baker be forced to make a cake for a Westboro Baptist “God hates fags” afterglow party or a person adamantly opposed to homosexuality? Would a black baker be ordered to make a cake for a KKK rally? Would a Christian baker be forced to make a cake for a porn-producing company? If so, would they have to conform to some sexually graphic request for the cake’s decoration? Would an American baker be forced to provide a cake for a radical Islamic rally against America? Would an Islamic baker be forced to provide a cake celebrating the American Bible Society? Would an Islamic baker be forced to provide a cake depicting a pig for a Messianic Jew who is celebrating his freedom to eat pork?

The answer is “no” and “yes.” “No”  if we are being rational, understanding, fair and sane in our decision making. “Yes” if…

America DOES Negotiate With Terrorists!

I was shocked to learn Sunday of the prisoner exchange in which the United States released five high level Taliban prisoners for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, taken hostage by the Taliban five years ago.

Of course, if it had been my son I would have rejoiced, as any parent would. And I am sorry that Bergdahl suffered as he did (though it seems his capture came as the result of his own error in leaving the military base where he was stationed.) But, there is a reason for the resolve not to negotiate with terrorists. From now on, any terrorist who kidnaps an American on foreign soil has reason to believe that his demands will be met. This is just another way in which our President and his administration are demonstrating their disrespect for America and American values, and in which he and they demonstrate a fundamental lack of depth, insight, and preparedness to lead America.

The Downward Spiral of the Scripture Bypass Defense

ccithink

The Scripture Bypass Defense says:

  • Scripture does not say what we think it says

  • Scripture says what we think it says but does not mean what we think it means

  • Scripture says what we think it says, and it means what we think it means, it just does not apply to our modern situation

  • Scripture says what we think it says, and it means what we think it means, and it applies to our modern situation, but it is just too difficult to obey so the Holy Spirit lets us out of it
