So much hay is being made about the upcoming solar eclipse. I have shared some thoughts previously, but apparently I have a few more.
The Ancients?
Perry Stone is the second teacher I have heard in recent days who refers to the “ancients” in order to nail down a prophecy about the eclipse (see link at the top of the page). When did we start interpreting the times by leaning on “the ancients”?
Stone and others are also too comfortable with leaning on rabbinic commentary on things rather than Scripture itself in order to support their prophetic claims. If the Bible is inspired, then we have to assume the Holy Spirit included in the Word all that we needed and that a plain reading is enough to discern what God is doing. It’s called a “plain reading” of the text. Today, in order to come up with new prophecies, a man or woman needs to be a mathematician in order to decide what God is doing.
Solar Eclipse Bad! Very Bad!

The idea that we should all view a full solar eclipse as being always bad for the nation from which it can be seen or for the world in general is an outlandish claim. The universe is predictable. We know when these things are going to happen. They aren’t random occurrences!
American Christian Arrogance
Finally, if this event were happening in England, France, Germany, or any other nation, no one would care. I am not and never will be an America basher. But American Christians “suit up” for things that happen in America but largely ignore the same type of events in other parts of the world. If ISIS had been beheading Americans in the the continental U.S. it would have been a sign that the end was near!
Will There Be A Rapture?
Yes, I believe in the Rapture (though not a pre-trib Rapture). But I have to be able to find one’s beliefs and claims in Scripture itself.
Let’s be clear: if you are not right with God you need to repent. You don’t need an eclipse for that.

Well I guess these guys will
never give up . Amazing how the inerrant Word of God is not enough for people to go by. And they fool people by saying the Lord told me!! I’ll stick with scripture and the Holy Spirit revealing those truths to me.

Yes! It’s one thing to interpret actual Scripture in an incorrect manner, but this is one of the worst stretches of the Christian prophetic imagination I’ve ever seen!
